Last time I checked, the world was not in Black & White, so there are issues with the idea of “reality” in photojournalism. As far as I’m concerned, the point of a photojournalist is to do whatever it takes to get the world’s attention to their “concerned art.” If it means removing a certain distracting element, I think it is mandatory to do so. For example, the infamous Dorothea Lange photo of the migrant woman had a thumb in it, so she removed it as it took away from what she was trying to say.
